Exterior door treatments

Hi everyone,i need some help here please i have recently bought a new oak exterior door.i don't want to stain it but all the sites i have been on recommend that i do, or can it just be varnished if so is there a fool proof varnish out there i am not good with varnish it seems to drag and no matter how i try i always end up with hairs everywhere.please help !!

External varnish = after about 12 months will flake and peel and go horrible and black.

Oil = will wash/weather off in a number of months unless repeatedly applied, after a few re-applications you may find you need to maintain it "only" every 6-18 months.

Stain/paint = 3-10 years life (level of pigmentation determines the life).


Your choice.

no matter how i try i always end up with hairs everywhere.please help

Its dark blue, how has it been coloured?
