Just been quoted £380 for some kitchen electrical work. I don't yet have a breakdown but from the top of my head this will be for;

  • socket/power for built-in double oven
  • socket/power for integrated fridge/freezer
  • socket/power for extractor fan
  • socket/power for electric hob
  • socket/power for integrated dishwasher
  • 3 x stainless steel wall sockets
  • double socket in landing adjacent to kitchen

He was asking where our fuse box was so I'm guessing he has to run cable from there to the kitchen?

I've also been quoted £170 for supply & fit of 6 chrome spotlights in a false ceiling.

Are these reasonable prices?

Parter,

From your description we cannot assess whether the quote is reasonable.

Have you any idea of what is physically involved to do the job? Has he/she got run a cable to the CU? Have existing kitchen units to be moved before cables and sockets can be fixed? What value do you place upon him keeping abreast of the current wiring regs and owning appropriate test equipment? What £/hr do you consider to be reasonable for a person engaged in this activity? Were you to hire yourself out, what £/hr would you accept as being reasonable to cover your overheads (van, tools, profeesional fees) and still provide you with a reasonable standard of living?

Regards

Very reasonable. In fact maybe a little too reasonable.

Agreed. Two seperate 6mm cables for the cooker and hob would take up the bulk of the cost.
Where do YOU buy cables? :LOL:

:LOL: I posted whilst thinking out loud there. That was short for " running two cooker circuits and fittings would take up the bulk of the cost " ;)
