I have a single garage (not attached 2.5 x 6m) that needs a new felt roof.

I have obtained four quotes, 2 for £800 and 2 for £1700. None mentions the methods or materials to be used, so I am puzzled at the difference in price!

I would be most grateful if I could have a clearer answer as to what should be a reasonable cost for this job???

This is not an answer to my question...

I asked one of them, he said they use triple layer felt thats why the price is much higher.
I am reading on the web that the triple layer is a standard material used.
So am I getting ripped off???

There must be someone out there with bit of knowledge who can give me rough price within a couple of hundred pounds that I should expect to pay the pleasure of a new felt roof. (ok let it be triple layer felt)

Regards
Dimi

Your best bet is to ring your local planning control and they will give you some recommendation roofing specialist who are not cowboys. I'm afraid they are some good and bad one out there.

As you say a standard flat roof should have 3 layered felt.

no your right it isnt, but it IS advice,

look at it this way.

You come onto this forum, you tell us the size of roof and what its for.

you then decide to only give some information (having given dimensions)
you dont say
1) has job easy access
2) where you are in the world (price reflects this)
3) did you give the person a hard time
4) was it a phone quote (not visited site)
5) materials

5 is an interesting one, since at first you dont mention what the material is (you said there was no mention of material) then all of a sudden you know what the material is.

you then say

the answer is yes, but NOT on this forum, that is why item 9 exists.

It is because of things like where are you in the world, how easy is access to the job (consideration needs to be taken in from a heavy duty plant aspect too)( no i dont mean a large daffodil) etc etc etc

With out this information it is NOT fair on you for any one on these forums to give a quote since most quotes are done by visiting site which we can not do.

now do you understand why i said see item 9?
