I've moved into a house with a garage conversion, but the original door from kitchen to garage was never replaced (old, heavy fire door).

I want to replace this, but I'll need to fit a new door liner as the original one is incomplete on what was the garage side. It's a modern house (12ish years old) so sizes should be standard.

First question: where can I get a door liner? Do the likes of B&Q stock them, or will I need a specialist supplier?

Second question: is there anything important I should bear in mind when fitting the door liner and hanging the new door? I'm hoping that my basic carpentry skills and DIY manual will get me through  - but any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Nope, it was converted into a room by the previous owners (all approved by building control when we bought the place, so no problems there).

It's just that they didn't do a great job - sorting out the door is the first in a long list of (mainly cosmetic) things to sort out ...

Best to go to a timber merchant and get a door lining frame kit which is adjustable for 2' 3" or 2' 6" door opening. They also come in difference size width depending on the thickness of the wall.

When fitting the door liner make sure there's no bow and use plenty of fixings such as fischer screw type to the wall and spend more time getting this right as it will makes life easier to hung the door.Make the frame up first with 2 bottom brace and 45 degree brace and check the measurement is square. Also use packing behind the door frame if needed.
