Hi.
I'm helping my father-in-law to build an brick shed. All the walls are up and now i'm doing the roof. The question i have is how to join the roof to the walls. I was going to put a length of 4"x2" on top of the wall then fix the roof joists to these. What i've been told to do is put a layer of cement on top of the walls first then lay the 4x2 on this and tap it level. Then leave it here until it's dry and then screw it to the wall.
Is this correct?

sounds about right.

the generic size of a wall plate is 4"x3" tanalised, but 4"x2" is acceptable.

bedding on mortar helps with levelling but is not an absolute prerequisite.

screwing down to the top course of bricks will stabilize the plate whilst fixing the roof, but bent holding down straps provide a more robust solution.

So you do know what a wall plate is then Noseall?
