floorboards question

im having to relocate a raditor,the room is say 20 long by 10,the floorboards run length ways,the original radiator is at the end of the room,it will be refixed on the same end of the room,just more to the left cos patio doors are in place now where the rad was,so of course the floorboards have to come up,what i want to know is how u would tackle the floorboards,i was thinking of cutting crossways along the floor to gain access to the pipes,then when it came to fixing the boards down again,i was going to screw a new bit of timber to the joist to give me somethin to re nail the boards down,thought it may be alot of trouble to pull the boards up lengthways ,

where the floor boards not pulled up origionaly for the heating to be installed!!! just lift the same pattern of boards
or is the heating the same age as the floor!!

are you saying the radiator crosses the end off boards!!!!

heating the same age as the floor,pipework is at the end of the boards,the boards also run under the wall,so its going to be tight to pull the ends up if they have been nailed down under the wall.there was a large rad nearly the width of the room,the one going in is a quarter the width,so there is pipe either end of the walli have not pulled any up yet,just want to be prepared for when i do it,im hoping the far end pipe is running parrael with the other end,so at least i can make the join close without ripping up the whole floor,

I don't see any problem cutting widthwise as against lengthwise. But do you need to lift the ends on all the boards, perhaps creating 2 or 3 holes will suffice.
I cut some boards widthwise using a circular saw set to the board thickness, but to prevent any kick back I screwed a short piece of wood to the floor for the saw to rest against while I made the initial plunge cut.
Also to avoid nails I cut in line with the edge of the joists. :roll

right to try and reduce cutting boards remove 2 boards where the new pipe positions are going
if you are lucky and your reducing the the pipe length you may be able to locate one of the pipes at this point running accross [through] the joists if you can definatly say its the pipe going to for example the left hand side[must be on the end of the run not in a loop through the wall for example]
once youve drained or airlocked the pipe you pull the tail as high as you can cut as near to the floorboards as possible
then all you have to do is cut and rerout the pipe at the correct point and with luck the old tail will fall below the floor with one less pair of boards to disturb
