Ford Escort Oil Leak

My 1995 Ford Escort is leaking oil, apparently from the oil filler cap. The cap seems to be secure, but could need replacing - i have taken a picture (below). What could be the cause of the problem? Thanks.

cap and hose usually blocked/gunged up take whole lot off and clean out

Thanks ! Just cleaned the pipes, they were blocked with gunge just like you said. Hopefully this will stop the problem.

Just to add to this.

That looks like a HCS engine ?

If thats the case, take off each oil / breather hose one at a time and clean out or replace. They will more than likely all be full of the white / yellow gunge which is oil / water mix.

You'll be amazed at how much better the engine feels when this is done.
