    Hi all.
I am experiencing an annoying intermittent fault where my vehicle just cuts out, I loose all power & the ABS light ( skidding Car icon) comes on by itself. I have to pull over for a minute switching the engine off. After this short delay I start the Car up again & the light goes out & I can just carry on with my journey.
This as happened about 10 times over the 18 months I have had the vehicle but twice today so I am now a little concerned that it might be the start of something quite serious.
If anybody has had this problem themselves, I would appreciate it if you could share the solution to this issue.
    Many thanks.

    Bing.

This could prove to be an absolute nightmare but initially I would consider the crank and cam position sensors to be a possible culprits - especially if you think the fault is related to heat.
Has the car had a fuel filter change at some time? Partial blockages of the thing can cause low fuel pressure and the engine shuts down.
You could have the car checked for fault codes but I've a feeling you won't find any.
    John :)

Thanks for that John, my father has suggested changing the fuel filter just to eliminate it & this now looks like a good place to start.
The mention of Crank & Cam Sensors sets the alarm bells ringing so I think I will go with the relatively cheap option.
Thanks again John it is appreciated.

If there is a competent diesel specialist near you, I'd be calling in......obviously the car is behaving in a potentially dangerous way and it is unpredictable.
These people have the data to test and monitor various sensors when the car is on the move - things that we can't do. They also know the parameters in which the sensors are accurate.
I'd expect them to test the crank and cam sensor performance (not difficult) and also to test the pressure delivered by the high pressure diesel pump to the common rail.....however if this is low it usually puts the engine management or glow plug light on.
    Here's wishing you luck!
    John :)

Judging by the amount my mechanic swears when he changes the fuel filter, its hard to get the car started again. Somethkng to do with Ford not including any method to air locks -I think the only way is to pressurize the tank (but dont try that, I couldve mis-remembered).
