Good evening.

Have a ADT branded Galaxy G2 alarm which is paid for. Still pay for their monitoring monthly service.

As a part of full fibre broadband install, we are losing the PSTN copper line the alarm communicates with ADT centre on.

Called ADT, they said the only option is to upgrade to their interative alarm with new features and it can include a sim data comms element and £££.

I did some research online - it seems the G2 did have a gsm module but was discontinued back in 2011. Although, there is one or two lurking in the e bay land.

On the discontinuation document - honeywell suggest updating to the flex 20 control panel.

Is the flex 20 still current and is it the best option? What bits do I need just the control panel, not the pad?

Many thanks.

Hi,

Another thought, although dependent on cost etc.
There are devices called Analogue Telephone Adapters - basically allowing old systems such as fax machines to communicate via VOIP.
For example:

https://xinix.co.uk/product/fanvil-g100s-ata-adapter/

A bit of a faff to set up, it's another device to house and you would need a VOIP account etc. But it could be a stop gap measure for some? :)

Only the G2-44+ supported the old GSM module.

If you're switching to self monitoring, you can add an Ethernet module. The SelfMon vmod is an Ethernet module that can send alarm reports to the SelfMon platform which costs £1 a month and provides messaging and path monitoring.

You can also do the above with Honeywell's E080-10 V4.14 Ethernet module, but on the G2 there's no keypad app as there is with the SelfMon module.

The Flex is a current product and the plastic case medium and large variants can take the GSM module and IP module. Ensure the IP module is V4.14, GSM is V2.07 and the board is 2021 date code, as it has a power fix.

Disclosure: I run SelfMon.

@GalaxyGuy thanks for the details. Very useful. The vmod and self monitoring does sound interesting. How hands on do you have to be to diy the monitoring and bypass adt?

What does the keypad app do? - use the keypad remotely by phone? To arm / disarm etc? Can you see codes and status show on the keypad remotely?

Thanks for the detailed reply. I did look at the description on the website and sort of understood some of it!

If you can follow step by step instructions, then it's something someone with light technical skills can complete easily enough.

The app provides a virtual keypad on your phone like the one on your wall, so you can enter codes and view logs. There's also an internal web based keypad.

The reporting part can send SMS, push notifications, email and voice calls. These are configurable and provide things like name of zones triggering burglary Etc.
