How deep should I dig the foundations for a small (approx 1m high) garden wall. And should I fill them to ground level or about a brick or 2 below?

Cheers for that masona. 1 last question as my wall will be 2 bricks wide am I better to use mortar or wall ties for securing them together. Or would I better just using this deign for the wall.

I'm not too fussed about the design just whatever is easiest/strongest.

1-Wall ties
2-Mortar
3-Design the wall as above with every 3rd layer of bricks layed across the way.

If you built the wall using English bond ie alternate layers of headers and stretchers, that would be the strongest wall. If you used lime mortar (cos I think it's great) the wall could flex without cracking the bricks.

Agreed with oilman, you cannot beat lime mortar.

There's no need to use wall-ties,just mortar will do even for stretcher bond wall (most common)
