Hi
I need to remove my gas cooker to fit new flooring but instead of a bayonet fitting on the flexible tube it has screw on fittings both ends. Can I just turn off the gas, undo the fitting and the re-connect it when the job's done or do I need to put some 'gunge' on the threads to ensure a gas tight seal?
Thanks.

You play with the pipe, no way will you be sure that there is no leak. Not every 'gunge' is suitable for gas pipe. Every gas line disconnection must be retested upon make up.

Play safe unless you want to turn into a (Casper the friendly) ghost.
