GAS PIPE coppper or iron

does an external gas pipe HAVE to be in iron or is copper ok.I can understand using iron if the pipe run is in a vunerable place like an alley but my boss insists it is compulsory. is this so ?

No. Copper is OK providing it isn't vulnerable to damage (e.g. vehicle impact). Check the Corgi book.
 
no it can be copper, but will have to have protection in a vunrable area ie; drive way etc;
 
8ft off the ground is OK I believe. Use metal clips which keep the pipe off the wall - plastic ones crack due to UV. Sorry if that's eggsucking..
