Hi everyone

Just finished stripping wallpaper from the lounge. The painted plaster underneath looks quite old but otherwise solid however there are quite a few hairline cracks in it. It's not falling off nor is it loose.

Having trawled the forums i'm in two minds of what to do.
1. Should I skim it? or
2. Put 1200 lining paper on it?

The wife wants the walls painted not wall papered.

Your advice as ever would be v. helpful

Thanks

andy

Lining paper.

Feels nicer than painted plaster too, warmer.

I agree having wasted many an hour recently filling and sanding some walls only to have most of the cracks show through (barely but visible) afterwards.
I lined,
I painted,
I was happy once more.

Someone posted on here a while back about their method (which I haven't tried, but sounds good).

You put up the lining paper with a small gap (I would think 2mm) between each vertical run. Then you paint a thin layer of emulsion over each join. Fill the 2mm gaps, sand down with fine paper. The emulsion stops you sanding into the lining paper.

Then paint, and you avoid the joint lines you get with lining paper. :D
