halogen lights and false ceiling

is there a recommended gap between your old ceiling and the false one being fitted with halogen lights these are 50 watt lights

Yes and it will tell you in the instructions provided with the lights, which will de different for e.g. max wattage of fitting, mains vs LV, etc.

no mention in the instructions hence the question on this site does anyone have a clue as to this

My Opinion:

at least 110mm (most lights I have fitted require 100-105mm) so 110mm leaves room for error.
