Hi

New on here wondered if anyone could help me with a fault my halstaed boiler has developed.

In hot water operation only the boiler works fine hot water spot on when the heating is calling for heat the heating works fine with no problem. The fault is on standby for some reason the heating has taken to coming on on its own accord the boiler will fire up for no reason heat for any thing up to 5 mins then shut down.I have tried disconnecting the power supply to the clock but it still does it not enough for a full system heat but enough to heat the two nearest radiators to the boiler.

Anyone have any ideas?

primary thermistor. could be thinking it is frosty and switching its self on in frost protection mode.

Isn`t the thermistor there to monitor the temperature of the flow/return temps & shut down if need be?

Didn`t know that they could fire up boilers.

they are used as frost protection...if water temp gets too low in boiler
then it will fire up for a while to prevent freezing.

Probably as above but could be the hot water flow switch. If water has leaked into it it could be doing odd things.

Sort your thermistors from your stats please Mr ' not so superduper ********";)

Why not give halstead and worcester a phone, for a start, and ask how their frost protection system works on their boilers.

Just for you Bamber!

Halstead finest has to quote the MI's 'internal frost protection'

it only has one 'stat' and thats an overheat type

The two thermistors are for DHW temp and CH temp.

The latter of the 2 acts as the frost 'stat'
