    Hi all,

Hope someone can help, had two quotes for a new heat exchanger one chap tells me I need to flush the system and fit the new heat exchanger and the other said just fit the heat exchanger no need to flush and will save you money. Who is right as I don't want the heating to breakdown in the winter.

Indeed - the Pro's on here are good - but we're not mind readers.

    Hi,

I didn't post the problem or the name of the boiler because I have been told the problem I only need to know if the system needs flushed or not.

How the hell should we know?

    Plate heat exchanger?
    Main heat exchanger?
    Modern Condensing boiler?
    Old Cast Iron Floorstander?
    Giannoni?
    Copper finned?
    Low water content Cast Iron?
    Veissmann?
    Worcester?

If Worcester - CDI? Or Junior/Si?

Why does it need changing? Sludged? Scaled? Leaking?

    Sealed Heating System?
    Open Vented?
    Primatic?

How are we going to help without knowing the basics of the problem?

    Hi dan,

I told you what I was told by two heating repair men so I don't have the knowledge you have on heating I will get more info and post it. I would love you to come into my garage with a car fault we would see how cocky you are.
Every man to his own trade I am never this rude when someone asks me for help.

If someone says their car is broken the first question is going to be what is the make and model?

Boilers can have two or three heat exchangers; and they can fail for multiple reasons.

It's not about being cocky you idiot, it's about giving you the right information.

BTW - I'm not too bad with cars either [IMG]

The point of the first half of my list is that without the make and model we have no chance in pinning down what type of fricking heat exchanger you are going on about.

Let alone why is needs changing in the first place.

Someone comes into your garage without their car....

"My car sounds as rough as a badger's arris."

    hhhmmm...

    Good description.

    Could it be injectors?

    Timing belt?

    Misfueling?

Perhaps it is simply French and just sounds rough because they all do.

How are you going to tell?

    Prat.

Yes your right dan if you have a problem with a starter, alternator, brakes, clutch, suspension, tyres the list goes on and and on I don't need the make or model of car to solve most problems. Please Dan don't make your job more than it is and there is no reason to be rude when someone asks a basic question. When someone comes into my garage with a coolant fault we always flush the system to make sure there is no crap in there and that is where my question is do I flush or not.

But why does it need changing?

If someone comes into your garage it is usually with the car that needs attention.

How would you approach that one?

What are you saying here, that you think your job is more complex than our job.? This is not a dick measuring contest. However now you started it. Our job is and I mean this an endless list. Not a nut and bolt and a Pcb etc. Trust me your out your depth with that post.
