Evening all,

Have a very quick q re door bell/chime.

Just moved into a house which has a door chime mounted internally above the door. However what remains of the switch outside is just the mounting plate. Someone must have half inched it.

I have removed the cover off the chime unit and there is no indication as to who the manufacturer is. Just YKG printed on the speaker. Looks to be a generic unit the builders put in.

My question is, can I buy a generic push button for this existing unit???

I'll also making a few assumptions here.

1 - There are 2 wires disappearing into the wall from the chime unit, (6 core cable) hence it must be getting power from somewhere.

2 - There are no wires on the frame outside near the old push. So I'm guessing its a wireless sender.

Can someone please clarify my understanding of what's required to get this working. Rather not have to replace the whole thing.

Many thanks.

Replace it, you can pick up a plug in wireless door chime for less that £8.00.

Hi - would be easier to just fit a new push button. As there is nowhere to plug in a replacement. I think this is wired to the CU, which is close by.

Can I not just buy a switch from somewhere?

Many thanks for the response Steve.

I have been a bit of a plonka... When I traced the wire back from the bell, it went to the alarm panel. Must act as an internal speaker.

The plate on the door frame was a bit of a red herring. Hence, I don't have an existing system to worry about.

Just need to buy a new one now then. Any suggestions for a good wireless that won't interfere with every other bell on our estate???

Thanks to all...

Such a product does not exist.

Buy a wired doorbell.

Doorbell: http://www.toolstation.com/shop/d200/sd2570/p54078
Button: http://www.toolstation.com/shop/d200/sd2570/p72451
Optional transformer if you don't want to buy batteries: http://www.toolstation.com/shop/d200/sd2715/p29865

You will also need a short length of bell wire or alarm cable.
