The red gate valve (in the airing cupboard) on the cold water feed into my loft is dripping ... I've had this valve turned off tonight while I fitted new bathroom taps, so that's what's done it ...

It's not leaking enough to cause chaos, but it is going to be a mess by the morning if I can't sort it tonight. The drip gets worse if I close the valve (why is that?)

Is there anything obvious I can do (aside from turning off the water) to stop this? Are these valves repairable, or will I need to replace it? It's in a really awkward place!

Thanks

In all probability all you need to do is slightly tighten the gland nut.

Just under the wheel head is a small nut which compresses some packing material against the shaft.

One minute then happy dreams!
