does anyone know how to sharpen steel blade sissors? the blade is about 7 inches long and the sissors are very old but I don't want to get new becaulse they will not be the the same quality. thanks
Yes. Yes can get a simple scissor honing device from most ironmongers:
If your blades are very poor they may need regrinding which should preferably be done on a wetstone grinder and followed by a good stropping. I do this on my wife's dressmaking scissors and shears, and the only ones that take a lot of care are the curved shears. Dry grinding can draw the temper of the blades or even burn them meaning they will stay sharp for all of 5 minutes use (i.e. it ruins them). Don't touch the flat parts of the blades at all. If possible dismantle the blades (only possible on good quality screwed scissors) and stone the bevels making sure that you keep the same angle as they already have (normally 50 to 60 degrees I believe). Specialist scissors such as pinking shears and hairdressers serrated snips are more complicated to sharpen and may need to be sent to a specialist grinding service
