I've seen small wood effect slips for hiding the expansion gap around a fireplace hearth. It is shaped like coving and I was wondering what is the best way to secure it to the floor or hearth. I don't think that securing it the floor would be a good idea as the floor could possibly expand in time and if the strip squeezes against the hearth the slip or the floor might end up damaged

Any ideas of how I could secure it or any possible alternatives I could use around the hearth to hide the expansion gap??

Hi Sannesley

What we normally do in these circumstances is to pin (tiny pins) flat beading on the floor to cover the expansion gap. Covers it, but also allows movement of the floor (in extreme cases the beading comes loose, but you can easily pin that back).
