Hot tap stuck on! HELP!

Hot tap stuck on! HELP!

Hi, here is a pic of my kitchen tap.

Over a couple of weeks the hot tap seemed to get really stiff and resistant when turning it off. Eventually it just gave up and got stuck in the 'on' position.

I am having great difficulty in unscrewing the tap to see what's going on underneath.

Any idea's on best practise to get into the tap, and what might be causing the problem?
