Hotpoint electric oven SY36 intermittenly cuts out. After about 10mins suddenly cuts out and timer display goes blank. After a few seconds can press one of the display buttons and it comes back to life (no problem with mains connection). This sometimes happens again after a short while or it then works fine.

Is it likely to be a problem with thermostat?

Thanks

More liable to be a problem with the timer, the t/stat will not control the timer

No, it won't be the thermostat. That would just cut off the heating but would not affect the display. More likely a loose connection.

There might possibly be an overheat thermal cutout but I would be looking for a bad connector. Turn off the power at your consumer unit, pull it out an look at the supply cable for damage, and the connection in the wall, and at the back of the oven.

If the oven is very old it may not be worth the cost of having it repaired
