We have had Denis Ruabon quarry tiles (over 500 ) laid in a new extension and the builder has used cement grout which looks terrible; lots of ridges and holes, wrong colour (pale), uneven - you name it. Basically, it is concrete with expensive tiles laid into it!
He has also left a huge gap (over 1cm in some places) between each tile.
We have asked him to remove it but he's taken to his sick bed.
Mu husband has been trying to get it up with a grinder blade on his drill but the dust is awful and now he has a bad chest - yes, he was wearing a mask. The dust is coming into the house and we are all coughing.
Please, does anybody have any ideas how we can do this without all the dust? There must be a drill bit that would grind it up without all the dust.
Thanks for taking the time to read this - we are desperate.

I sympathise with your plight, but it seems wrong to me that you're having to remedy a poor installation. Is it just because the builder is ill, or is it because you don't trust him, or is it because he's refused?

Frankly, it sounds as though the job is sub-standard - if so then you should request that the builer puts it right. Clearly you could end up in dispute, but you make a bad job into a good one with an angle grinder. Sorry.

Thanks for your sympathy and comments. Yup, it is a bad job and the floor is only part of it. We know that the whole floor should come up but that is not going to happen because the builder has run out of money and he is not getting any more from us until the job is finished. We just want him out of here - 6 months and counting on a six week job! He is "ill" because he just cannot face us. We thought that if we found him the right tool he might come back and finish it. However, the drill bit we need does not seem to exist. Normal bits work really well; no dust but they wear down in minutes. We need tungsten carbide but no one seems to make them.

Looks as though we are going to have to try "bagging" with proper grout or try a grout stain and sealant.
