Hello!
I'll give you a rundown of what I'de like to do - any advice appreciated!

I hope to open a small record & CD shop in the next few months, I have not yet found suitable premises, so I am unsure of whether the floor would be being laid on wood/concrete etc. I hope to buy a premises, so I don't mind spending money on pernament flooring.

The idea was to have CDs placed under a transparent surface as flooring....with the mirrored side face up.

Don't know what is the best way to do it though!

Cheers

put some kind of backing on the concrete, ie white, if you wanted a white background to the SDs, put your cds on this and put a few sheets of perspex over them, go down to a b&q and look at the transparent stuff they have, it wont need to be that strong as it wont be taking any weight, you could also take em up if you move premisis

I was thinking similar, but if you made the sheets into small squares....say 1 foot square, if one gets damaged you only have a small square to be replaced.

The other thing is type of plastic, not sure if the q & b one will be too brittle, after all its going to get walked on a lot, and you do not one anyone to sue you for falling on your floor, also if it is raining outside, will the floor not become "slipery" with the transportation of water from peoples footwear, choice of "plastic" i think is a bit more involved than it would appear.

just a thought, suppose the "plastic" were say 12.5mm thick, shouldn't crack, can have countersunk fixings.

just been doing a search, you should use polymethylmethacrylate (perspex to you and me)

try a search on your favorite search engine for pespex floors, there are lots, but to be honest, i think this one does need specialist advice

Agreed with Breezer,I'm afraid people are suing all the times for accidental damages.
Best to get advice from a Floor specialist company that deal with a product called "Clear epoxy resin floor coating" that can go up to 8mm in thickness, the disavantage would be you cannot access under the flooring unless it's floor screed.

cheers for all the replies folks!
Gonna look into the suggestions....sounds like it might be more work than I thought though!

regretfully most things are :(

a job be it small or big can only go "acording to plan" if there is a plan in the first place, its easy to change something on paper than the real thing. but do persevere with your idea as it does sound good

Just remembered they do glass floor as they do in nightclub dancing floor area, maybe a glass manufacter might help you.
