I need to cut a single door into a breeze block wall. The breeze block wall is an infill into a taller archway that was obviously filled in a number of years ago.

General question on inserting lintels - How do you ensure that there is support throughout the process? I understand that you can for example use an acro prop to hold up the material above the door/window frame no longer supported by the material removed, but don't you have to cut a hole first so the prop has somewhere to stand? Alternatively I could envisage cutting a slot to slide the lintel in (with 150 mm bearing surfaces each side) before cutting away the bulk of the material but again there must be a period of time between cutting the slot and inserting the lintel when the material above is unsupported.

Any comments gratefully received

Can I ask what it for? e.g doorway into a garage maybe?

It's to link two parts of an old property that's been split in the past, so both sides will be for domestic type use although I haven't decided exactly what yet

hire a strongboy it fits to the top of an acrow and you only need to cut a slot out to take it.
Though for a 2' 6" doorway you should be able to get away with doing as you said cutting a slot for your lintel fit it in and then cut the rest of the opening.

Hi there,

I will be replacing a window with a patio door. The window is around 1.2m wide, the patio door around 2.4m wide.

Can someone plesae advise the safe procedure for removing/supporting etc and what I need in terms of the lintle (just a length of steel bar, thickness etc., or something specialist) ?

I can post pictures or add more info if required, just looking for the overall procedure.

Thank you.
