Installing desking onto a flat roof

Hi all,

I have a single storey flat roof extension approx. 8m x 4m that needs recovering and I am thinking of putting decking on top at the same time. The roof is quite large and overlooks my garden.

Does anyone know of any problems that might be associated with doing this and if I would need planning permission?

From what I understand the extension was originally built to support the weight, patio windows were installed to an upstairs room then money ran out and so they left the rest to the next owners!!!

I think you'd best check with your local council planning office. I believe you need permission to use the roof in this way. If you can look into your neighbours gardens from on high they might object. Best to find out before installing otherwise you'll have to take it down.
