I have a bedroom over a garage.

The garage cieling is asbestos sheets nailed to the joists of the floor above.

I need to insulate the space between this cieling and the wooden floor (carpet on floorboards) of the bedroom above.

What would be the best solution for this please?

Also the house is a chalet style house, 1970's.
Someone suggested I open up the 'voids' and insulate in there too. What would be the best way to do this as well?

Thanks in advance

I normally find it easier to put in a suspended ceiling below with insulation plus plasterboards or you could use suspended insulation ceiling tiles kit, this way you wouldn't have to remove flooring or ceiling.

I have the same problem and I also want to include an element of acoustic insulation.

I am thinking of putting up wooden battens with a rockwool/slab type insulation between, then plaster-boarding over.
I'll then have to get someone in to skim it.

But it's on my list of jobs!

You don't have too, use tape, filler & emulsion will give you a flat ceiling.

You could try spray foam insulation as it can be injected or sprayed on. It is a 2 component foam with a closed cell structure, which makes it impervious to moisture (unlike the single component aerosol cans of foam). It also hardens, expands and cures within a maximum of 3 to 5 minutes depending on whether you use the slow rise or quick cure. It can be purchased in portable DIY kits.
