my mum's house had a burst pipe in December. It took a long time to get it dried out and decorated, I am using a builder from the insurance co's panel.

The claims handler appointed by the insurance co has so far failed to provide budget/purchase authority for floor coverings or appliances damaged by the water. He would struggle to find employment as a non-dairy-fat cocoa-based fireguard.

Can I get my own loss adjuster or something, and will this do me any good? The claim runs into many thousands of pounds so I had imagined they would take it seriously. I want it finished this month.

do you know how to find a good one? Are they expensive?

Sorry, I can't advise. I'd imagine they must have a professional body called something like 'the association of loss adjusters'.
