Is it ok to scarify a lawn in the Spring?

If yes, how late in the season can you do it. Or is it better to wait till autumn?

Its a heavily moss ridden, shady lawn of about 240msq. Gravity fed rain water, 10l watering can.... oh sorry, forgot which forum I was on for a mo...

moss and thatch basically chokes the lawn, depriving it of light and air. It wont do any real harm to do it now. the lawn will look a mess for a short while but should bounce back (well shouldnt bounce at all if youve scarified it!) well as it can start to grow properly
 
Okay thanks. Will need to seed the bare patches that appear, but have got your recipe off an earlier post about covering it with equal parts sand, peat and top soil to keep the birds off the seed.

Might rent out the lawn to the Olympic trampoline squad for practise so I can raise money for hiring scarifying and aerating machines. :LOL:
