Is this chimney worth exposing?

I am opening up the hearth and putting in a nice large contemporary Scandinavian wood burner.

The question is, do you think an average DIY'er (or maybe paying someone) can point it up to look nice?

I presume that flexi liner is hanging loose ready for your new tackle, or does it continue through the hearth to the floor below?
 
Those bricks are to messy to point up.
Cut out the opening then get some reclaimed bricks and build the surround in front of the existing, it would look good done with some black dye in the mix, then rake the joints back a bit.

Agree, you are going to need more depth to accomodate a stove.
