Juddering pipes lead to problems?

A couple of years ago my landlord had a new electric immersion heater cylinder fitted in the loft after the old one caused some internal rain. Recently (well few months) when running a hot water tap anywhere in the house or even washing machine, after a while (presumably when the tank starts to re-fill from cold water feed?) a juddering starts in the pipes in the loft, and continues for a while after the hot is turned off - this is noticeable from next door. I noticed tonight you could detect this judder if you turn the cold on, as in the supply isn't continuous, though with a pretty high frequency of juddering (hope that makes some sense).

This also occurs when the hot water has been switched off over periods in the summer, so presumably isn't water temperature related.

Is the continual juddering of the pipes likely to lead to problems with joints in the pipework at some point? It's been reported but that was months ago and he isn't keen on putting his hand in his wallet. All systems seem to be working fine, except for the noise.
