I'm getting a leak from our kitchen sink which seems to be coming from the edges where the basket meets the basin

I tool everything apart and cleared it all of gunk and put it back together but the seal where the basket meets the basin is on the large side and very thick and hard, there doesn't appear much flex in it and it looks more like a cistern coupling and there's not much left of it to overlap the sides under the bowl. Wondering if the plumber just used whatever was to hand when he installed - whatever thr case it doesn't feel like a snug watertight fit.

can anyone recommend me what I need to get to replace? I've been trying to find it on Google but not sure on what they are actually called - is it basket seal or washer? I think the diameter is around 45mm but it's difficult to measure exactly

I noticed the sink is also slow draining even after cleaning out the build up of gunk. Any other things to check for?

thanks in advance

Then I guess you cleaned all the components up to the waste pipe . If you are sure it's clear through to the drain then the only thing I can think of is that the branch for the appliances looks a bit narrow and I wonder if it is restricting the flow. Obviouly if it has only recently become a problem but used to be ok then it's not that.

The neighbours mentioned they had sink drainage issues recently, I wonder if it's something further down the pipes - we have an access hatch in our garden. Do you think it would be worth taking a look?

The sink makes a gurgking noise when it clears a lot of water so maybe there's air trapped or something. I also noticed it making that noise when the dish washer goes on sometimes

Yes it sounds like you need to have a look in your inspection chamber for drain a problem.

Replace the basket strainer waste as said.
Sink has an overflow so bit of tape over that and plug washing machine /dishwasher connections. Now fill sink with hot water and plunge.

Thanks how do I plug the washing machine and dishwasher connections? Do I take off the pipes and is there some kind of screw caps or plugs you can but to go over the connections?

Trap comes with 2 little blue plugs which blank off these connections and I always leave them in the sink unit so that if the appliance has to be removed, sink can continue to be used.
Otherwise, wine bottle cork or remove nozzle and stuff with tissue, bit of rag etc.

Thanks, I ended up stuffing a dishcloth into the overfill and had a go with the plunger a bit and it seems to have improved the drainage a fair bit but it's clear there's bad gaps in the seal as the pressure was forcing a lot of water out the washer so now just waiting for the replacement one to arrive
