lime renders for plastering...

hi there, i am doing some plastering in my old house (listed) and have been advised on this site to use a lime based render for plastering.

what safety isssues do i need to be aware of as i heard that lime can be very irratable and can burn as well. obviously i will wear goggles but do i need to wear gloves (can't imagine it would be easy to plaster in gloves though!)and long sleeves or is the lime render ok on skin.

Rub a load of barrier cream on first....hands+arms
