Locating screws in built-in wardrobes

I'm going to dismantle a built-in wardrobe made from MDF on a 2x2 frame. The screws holding the thing together have been countersunk and then filled before being decorated.

What's the easiest way of finding where the screws are so that I can dismantle it without smashing it up?

Do you have one of those handy gadgets for locating wires/metal in walls ?
I'm sure you should be able to find screws hidden in wood with one (unless they are brass screws,perhaps)

I'd thought about that, and I have one, but I'm just not sure how precisely it will locate them.
