Hi. I have a leak coming through the pin of a lockshield valve. When the valve is shut all is fine, although of course there is no heat to the radiator! When I open the valve I get a leak through the pin. I am assuming the pin is loose or damaged which is causing the problem? To fix this I am assuming that I will need to fix a whole new locksheila valve? Or is there a way of replacing the pin? Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

Steve

Depends on make
If it has a nut round the "pin" try tightening it.

Have a look at http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r79/worcesterman47/untitled2.jpg from a recent post.

If your valve is like that one then the nut labelled 2 is a packing gland, which forms the seal between the shaft and the valve body. A little judicious tightening of that nut (if your valve has one) may take up the soft packing enough to seal the leak, but if you overdo it the shaft won't turn, so back it off a tad.

If there's no gland nut, the packing isn't adjustable, so it's probably going to be a new valve.
