logical step for Labour is to reverse Brexit

Perhaps minimum wage should be regional?

A minimum wage is an artificial device. All the people working minimum wage are doing things that society requires. It's not that they could not earn enough in a fair economy, it's that the cost of living has been made too high, and this is from unchecked money printing by the financial class, and a resulting hike in inflation and accommodation costs.

Minimum wage is contrary to free market economics. Whilst I agree low paid people should be able to earn enough to live, the problem stems from the money printing and hence a dysfunctional economy where life's big essentials are artificially expensive (not set by a fair system). It's the money printing that should be addressed, but this is difficult, because it's to the benefit of the ruling class.

Also when minimum wage goes up no one ever mentions that there are 1,000s of employers that like to keep their base wage at a certain level above the min wage and the only way they can do this is by upping their prices = inflation. I know someone in such a sector and they enjoy it when the min wage goes up as it benefits them too but the cost of the service goes up. ( catering if you need to ask)

Was there ever a time when the people on low pay could comfortably afford the cost of rent, energy and food?
Yes, in the not too distant past
Surely they wouldn’t be called low paid if they could easily afford those things.
There's a difference between being able to live on a wage, and having to work and get benefits (that other taxpayers pay for) to live on.

I thought part of the reason for Brexit was that we didn't want low pay.

Just raising minimum wage isn't the answer.

The issue is the difference between the top and the bottom.

The cost of living is the issue

The problem with rents is that successive governments have increased the tax burden on landlords over the years so that any rent increase is a direct responce to those government interventions. Like having to pay tax as an income on the outgoings and now the new +2% tax on landlord profits, or not being able to refuse pets = increase in rent to pay for wear and tear that can not be taken from rental deposit as its wear and tear and not "damage". So more and more private landlords are selling up -- guess what - that leads to less homes available for rent and what do you think the effect that has on the remaining available homes to rent

As opposed to people owning their own homes that they can't afford now,

Try again

Not everyone wants to own a house.
Great how do you want to fix the problem then of people not being able to afford a house of their own you say your are a centerest so I have no doubt that you have the perfect solution that suits both the left and the right or are you happy to just point and moan like all lefties
