Hi, can anyone help. Our central heating system is getting on a bit now, but we are getting very loud banging from the pipes.
When we have just the hot water heating on the banging is from the start and has to be turned off, but when we have the heating as well as the water on, the banging generally doesn't start till a couple of hours of being on.
The banging happens in the pipes in the upstairs but also happens near the boiler (Apollo) downstairs. Also there is a noise which sounds like ball bearings rattling in the pipes!
Can anyone help as i'm just waiting for the day when a pipe will crack and water comes cascading through the ceiling!!

Also, forgot to mention, when the banging is happening brown water comes out of the overflow pipe!
