Same as the stud wall & depending on your span.Usually 4"x2" timber frame work round the walls with rawbolts or 6" Fisher screws fixing to the walls then 4"x2" ceiling joist with joist hangers in between.I find it easier to put the joist hanger onto the 4"x2" wallplate first at 16" (400mm) centre before screwing it onto the wall.Always use the ceiling joist in line to the shortest span for strength. If it a big span you can either put in a bigger joist or purlin joist support above with joining bracket to the 4"x2" ceiling joist.

I was involved in a lowered ceiling on a bedroom approx 8ft by 12ft.
We secured 2in by 2in around the room perimeter, then more 2 by 2 across the 8ft span at right angles to the existing joists and fitting snug between the perimiter timber.
These cross pieces were secured at each end using 2 small right angled brackets, in addition eyelet screws were screwed in the existing joists and the new joists at the crossover position. Wire was fitted from each eyelet to the eyelet directly below and twisted to tighten and take the strain of the new joists. We used 4ft by 3ft plasterboard and fitted noggins wherever it was needed to ensure all edges of the board could be secured.
The board was secured with screws as against nails.
The brackets, eyelet screws and wire were purchased from a firm specialising in suspended ceilings.
The new joists were placed at 16 in centres.
The joints of the board being staggered
Hope this helps
