M25 Eco Protests

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by diy_fun_uk, 16 Sep 2021.

  1. Im inclined to agree.

But the more that governments ignore them, the more they cut the ground out from under the feet of those who say that disruptive protests are wrong. If the government make all non-disruptive protests ineffective, what else do they leave people with?

I'd like to see a cost-benefit analysis for insulation in social housing versus other options.
I don't want HMG pandering to the specific demands of one small group of people based on their organiser's desires and antisocial behaviour.
This particular method of protest is unacceptable, and should be stopped with whatever force is required.

Patrick Moore above has some good points but a lot of it is amplification of the irrelevant, skewed to support his conspiracy theory. There are indeed masses of historical climate measurements, and results from recent studies which are "unfortunate" for climate change claimants.
But there is enough to convince me that yes, we have a problem and we're causing a lot of it, and if we care about the next couple of generations at least, we need to act.

The world will not act in time, so we'll have to learn to live with it. Whatever the UK does won't quite be as ineffectual as a drop in the ocean, but it's pretty small. I wouldn't want us to go faster in reducing than the major polluters do, or we'll just put ourselves at a disadvantage relative to those bigger economies.

What we should be able to do is use our technical abilities to develop pollution-saving technologies which we can patent and sell around the world.

    15 on a good run .

should have another project coming on stream next year with a 7 litre chevy engine , imported from the states from
    Blue print engines

could have gone to a 502 ( 8 litre) but issues with gear boxes and the fact that one needs to actually get down the end of the road with out running out of petrol :)

502 was never put in a car by GM ( afaik) truck engine ?

had use of a formula firebird ( 1976) for a week end years ago that had a 9.6

    staggeringly quick

    scary tbh

What other options? Are you thinking of ways to mitigate Carbon, or avoid people paying a fortune to heat sub standard homes? Really you'd have to do both and in that case it's incredibly better value.

Insulation is hard to argue against.

  11. You mean the not co-founder of Greenpeace who has been a paid spokesman for a variety of polluting industries including timber, mining, chemical and aquaculture for far longer than he ever worked for Greenpeace.

  12. Not for people who would argue that the sun was faked if their political ideology was against daylight

  13. Fortunately unacceptable views like that are not put into policy, so we are OK for now.

    well
Fact is violence has been solving some of the worlds problems since
Man walked the earth and will continue to do so

if it does not solve the problem than not enough was used

    perhaps we need to
Seek advice from that bloke in Belarus about the M25 protestors

    Yes, other mitigations. Quantified.
