Me and a couple of guys are doing various domestic wirings and stuff.

We are tending to use MK Logic Plus accessories for the mains wiring.

So we come to wanting to put in structured cable with Cat5 cable. We are then wanting to terminate the structured cabling with accessories which match the MK Logic Plus mains accessories.

So it seems that MK have 3 ranges of modular outlets: Euro, LJU6C, and MK-own-brand.

The Euro range seems to have the largest number of different modules available (telephone, data, TV), so we thought to go with that.

So blokey here went to the local electrical wholesaler to get a bunch of MK Euro modular stuff only to get "sticker shock" on the cost of the modules. We are talking about £8 for a single RJ45 module! Outrageous! Went to TLC direct and got it a bit cheaper, but still feeling a bit gouged.

The Euro modules are 25 x 50mm, and saying "Euro" implies that it could be some sort of standard. So I had a sniff round for some other modules.

Seems that Screwfix have some RJ45 modules (item 15944) which look like they might possibly work, and much cheaper (£2.25). The size is not mentioned in the catalogue, but the aspect ratio in the photo looks right (1:2), and they look like they could easily be 25 x 50mm.

Ordered one of those, and also a matching BT "secondary" module (item 92011, £2.99) and tried them in a MK Euro 2-way faceplace (MK part no. K182WHI).

They fit perfectly. Not only that but they are a better colour match than the MK ones!

The MK Logic plus range is slightly off-white in general, but the MK Euro RJ45 modules are bright white, and it's obvious when you clip them together. The Screwfix modules are slightly off-white in a way which is very close to the the MK Logic plus white.

The BT module came in a bag branded "Philex".

The RJ45 module and the BT module use exactly the same moulding for the main bit (i.e. the bit you can see), so they also have exactly the same shutter.

One thing to watch out for: To clip the modules into the faceplace, these modules have a single clip at the top and two clips at the bottom. After clipping the modules in and out of the face plate a couple of times we managed to break off one of the two clips on one of the modules. So the best bet is probably to be very ginger if you are planning on unclipping them.
