Hi

we're moving a light switch as we've blocked up the doorway the old switch was next too.

The problem we have is the wiring is now too short to reach the new switch position, we can't replace it from the start as that would mean removing chunks of the ceiling and lost of expensive plaster coving so is there any way we can extend cable safely?

thanks

Is the cable in capping or conduit?

If so, you could go to the void above and pull it back, then make a connection (accessible!!) to extend it to the new switch position.

It's not possible to access it from above unfortunately, was hoping we might just be able to join the wires where it's easily accessible

if you want to plaster over them, you will have to crimp them (using ratchet crimps, not squeeze n pray crimps) and wrap self amalgamating tape round to protect it against water
