Hey guys

This is a 2 bedroom semi.

I need an outdoor socket installed on the piv I have red marking.

The nearest socket is behind the wall I have marked red in the living room. The other socket is across the room opposite.

What will be ehe best way to route the cable from here to where I want to install the socket ? Would i need to drill ij the joists etc ?

Would a 2.5mm twin and earth work?

Is the floor wooden then? You Can make a spur off any socket for use outside as long as it has some kind of RCD or RCBO protection.

I'm not certain what you mean with regards to the nearest socket do you mean it's behind the big Red blob you've marked on the wall? Or is that where you would like your socket fitted?

The red blob is where I want to fit it. The nearest socket to spur off is near the blue blob. Ive uploaded a 3 pics. Just want to know what will be the best route. Will I need to make holes in the joists ? Or can I run over etc? I haven't taken the floorboards off yet. Just want yo make sure before I do.

The circuit is protected by RCBO.

Better to have a small holes drilled rather than notch the top of joists so the cable is less likely to be damaged by someone hammering a nail into a floorboard.

Easier to drop a cable from 1st floor above , lift a floor board and drill out below nearest socket .

Lift the corner of the carpet to see which way the floorboards run, is your internal wall with the socket masonry or stud?

Would I just drill out behind the socket from upstairs? Out to the external wall or between the internal and external wall I dropped the cable ?

If you have a socket on that external wall upstairs then that's going to be the easiest way to go. If you have a cavity wall you may be able to get a cable down it if it's not full of insulation. If not, you can drill straight out and run a cable externally but it will need to be either outdoor rated cable (swa/hi-tuff) or enclosed in rigid conduit. Drill on a downward angle inside to out to prevent water ingress, and use a smaller bit than needed then drill back through from the outside, this reduces the chance you'll blow the face off your brick.

This sounds like the best idea tbh. Would I. Need a conduit ?

If you can feed it down the cavity then no, if you have to run it outside then yes or outdoor rated cable.

Could the socket go on the left return wall Green arrow and the cable run out of the back of the socket, under the stairs and out through the wall?

For some reason my yellow arrows now appear white
