Hello,
Im in the finishing stages of a new build. The house is a 2 storey 2500sqft house. I have wet ufh on both floors. I have silver bead cavity wall insulation and all external walls are boarded with kingspan insulated plaster boards upstairs and downstairs.

I have decided to go with gas for the central heating as my wife has fell in love with the convienence of instant hot water as the property we have been renting has gas. The house is out in the sticks and i will have a bulk storage at the rear of the property.

My question is this....I had the site survey done yesterday by the gas company and the rep told me to get a Vokera 28kw combi boiler?? As i have always used oil before im afraid im completely lost!

I have a megaflo 200ltr storage tank in the airing cupboard and 3 showers and a jacuzzi bath. For the forseeable future it will be just be me and the wife and we have no plans for children so the 3 showers won't be running at the same time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Brian.

If you have an unvented cylinder then you dont need a 28 kW boiler!

All you need is a system boiler and probably only about 15 kW !

Its best if you use a boiler which is specially designed for UFH and some of the Viessmann models come to mind. Not all boiler models are available in LPG versions. Some like the Biasi M96 are not sold in LPG versions but can be converted with new jets and software settings.

As always you need to choose a Gas Safe registered installer who has the module for LPG. He will be able to advise on the power of boiler required.

Oil can be cheaper to fuel than LPG but it all depends on the world economy at any one time.

If it was me I would be looking at a 10Kw Heat pump and a small heat only boiler to top it up if necessary.

If he is in the country then a wood boiler or wood pellet boiler could well work out cheaper than LPG or oil and cheaper to install than a heat pump.

I said he should look for a Gas Safe engineer. Whilst those words are still valid, the UK registration body with that name probably does not cover gas engineers working in the Republic. Does anyone know what registration requirements or qualification checks are needed there?

Tony

Forget the Vokera. Look at the Vaillant 618 or Broag 18s, assuming these will indeed be large enough.

You need to work out the heat loss for your property, rather than just listen to guess's on here

Both can be converted to LPG without any parts needed.

Never trust anyone who recommends a vokera.
Why not ask the chap who put the underfloor units in?

dont touch vokera with a barge poll.

If your gonna fit a gas boiler fit a worchester cdi. you can modulate the heating temp through the board for your ufh.

But if your planning to stay in your house for a long time and have a few quid in the bank go for a ground source heat pump and solar panels. :D

If not, fit nothing but a worchester bosh mate. trust me

what he said.

tbh, its a shame more thought wasn't put into alternative sources earlier. A thermal store with ASHP and/or Solar inputs would have been ideal, then a small boiler to top up if and when.

Pain in the ar*e to fit, pain in the ar*e to work on, over rated, over priced, awful design by muppets who don't have to work on them as well.

The only reason they are popular is because of the freebie offers WB attach to them to increase sales.

They have lived far too long on the Bosch name
