the lawn was laid 7 days ago; currently watering it once or twice daily; installer recommended 3-4 weeks before walking on it, and same before first cut.

It's at the stage now where the roots seem to be holding onto the ground below - try to lift a corner and you get some resistance, whereas in the first few days it lifted up no bother.

Whaddya you folks reckon ...? 3-4 weeks?

Sound advice from the installers. As soon as you start mowing, this will encourage root growth, however don't scalp it for a extra few weeks, and water well after mowing, even if it's rained on it. If poss try to keep kids off it for a few extra weeks.
