Hi, I’d just like to check because I’ve never come across this colour scheme before
I’ve attached a picture of the old switch. New switch has common, l1 and l2.

Would I be correct in assuming red to common in the new switch, blue L1 and yellow L2.

I was expecting blue with a brown sleeve etc and the new switch to look the same with 3 terminals not 4.

You have what appears to be an intermediate switch being used as a two way switch.

Connect as you propose and all should be fine.

Thanks that was quick. I’ll report back shortly. It’s at the bottom of the stairs my daughter just told me she wants the top switch changing too but that’s a job for tommorow

When you do the other switch, you will likely see the same colours there, however with a Red and Black pair also bunched in with the yellow and blue cores.

Thanks , I just thought just thought as I was heading out the door ( daughter bought her first house) I should have taken off the switch upstairs. Then the red from the lighting circuit power would be bundled together with whatever colour they chose as common in this wierd colour scheme.
It’s been a long day ( makes sense in my head)
Anyway it’s was all working wired as I suggested above

Or there might just be another red yellow and blue, you won't know until you look

@Bluedog22 before you change the other switch post photo's of the wiring there please and we can advise further.

Does the new switch have a metal faceplate? If so, you'll need to ensure that it's earthed.
I believe the most conscientious way of doing it is to connect the earth wire, which is currently in the back box, to the faceplate and then have a short flylead connecting the faceplate to the backbox terminal.
If there is no earth wire in the backbox then you'll have to go back to the old switch.

Yes I have earthed it

New switch ready to be fitted, I’ve been gradually earthing everything as none of the od metal back boxes were earthed or wires tight either. I’ll take this out though and just feed earth wire straight into the plate as it’s a plastic Patrice box

Back of upstairs switch

Looks like I just put the single red in common and the other two l1 and l2.
Downstairs I put blue as L1. But it’s my understanding it’s not important just getting common correct is

Ended up using my Earth tail I made up there were 4 earths so I used one of these ideal connectors. Not Impressed I’ll stick with Wago
