Hi

I have noticed that our recently plastered ceilings have started cracking at the join between the wall and the ceiling. It is a long crack running the full length of the ceiling.

I have been advised that these cracks are very normal and are to do with the change in climate, the ceilings were plastered in June.

Should I leave it a while before raking out the join and filling it in? I did rake out one cracked joint, but the crack has just returned. It is pretty annoying, really!

Thanks in advance.

your better off using a flexible caulk, most fillers will crack again, were the joints taped before skimming?

Yes, joint between boards were taped, but I don't think they were in the corner between the wall and ceiling.

I will fill the crack with caulk, then.

Is it not normal for plaster to crack "in settlement"?

a bit of shrinkage will occur, could also be some movement in the ceiling, favorite would be the lack of proper taping

It will probably open up again. Coving will give a permanent cover.

Or apply paper tape into the internal corners using Gyproc Joint Cement. Let dry then fill over with Gyproc Joint Cement again and allow to dry. Then rub down.

Could someone please tell me what you mean by 'taping the joints'? What sort of tape? I presume this stops the cracking from happening initially.

Trying to pick up as much as I can :).

Cheers in advance fellas.
