I will soon be putting up a new plasterbaord ceiling and had been thinking this would need to be plastered/skimmed before painting. However I have been told there is no need to have the boards plastered, just to use tapered edge plasterboards then tape and filler the joints and then simply paint. I have always thoughts that it should be plastered/skimmed before decoration. Is this good practice or a short cut/bodge. Any thoughts please on the best way of doing this? Thanks

Tape & fill is the cheap & nasty option & will always look like it; use square edge boards & have it skimmed.

Taping and jointing takes longer aswell, although you could do it yourself, tape fill, sand, refill, sand etc

skimming done in 3 hours (ish) much nicer finish in my opinion!!

i have used tapered edge boards and it is alot of work to get a perfect finish if you dont have a good sander and dust mask id get it skimmed. but it is cheaper to use tapered edge boards cos you can do it yourself
