nearly bought a new van today i say nearly i was so close to doing the deal from ford until i asked where it was made ???????


TURKEY wtf is that about TRANSIT CONNECTs are made in turkey ??? is this country going mental ok so i didnt buy it wont go into why ( turkey come on )


ok so i need to know what vans are made in the uk i wont be buying anything that isnt got to put my mouth where my money is

ford connect (((( no chance now ))))

anyone a good van in mind medium to small size as its only for light dutys

what vans are made in this country or at least assembled here

It is also sold as a Renault, yes. Those distinctive rear lights give it away. But then Renault and Bedford have a long-standing relationship, Renault bought the designs for the original "Trafic" from Bedford. Or so I've heard.

Bedford Now there's a mans van Had a "CF" for 12 years, 2.3L high compression engine, with a low ratio gearbox, boy did it shift, Only trouble was I had to carry 5 x 3ft x 2ft paving slabs in the back to stop the rear wheels spinning, and the speedo needle got bent doing more than 90MPH

Believe it or not, at immingham we IMPORT Vauxhalls from Germany, and EXPORT Opals I kid you not, I've seen it with my own eyes, and yes, Transits come in from Turkey.

D'ya know that they sell Opels in Ireland and South Africa? Somewhere along the way someone has obviously decided it is cheaper to build both RHD and LHD opels, and use that brand to sell in those two countries rather than to build RHD Vauxhalls and LHD Opels...

Not sure I would buy an Opel-badged car, personally. I know it's basically the same car (the stickers inside the doorframes of my Vauxhall have the Opel "Shazzam" logos on them, and I have driven Opel Astras in Italy that felt exactly the same as my Vauxhall Astra) but somehow it just seems wrong.

Would you buy Aunt Bessie Yorkshire Puddings if they were called "die Yorkshirepuddings, der Tante Bessie"? Same ingredients, but just wrong.

Not sure I would buy an Opel-badged car

Strange, I recall when Ford first introduced the Escort (mk 1). Vauxhall, at the time had the Viva on the drawing board. Due to the massive uptake of the Escort, Vauxhall rushed the Viva into production. When it hit the market every single one was a lemon. In due course the design work was finished and released as the Opal Manta. The Opal Manta, then, was what Vauxhall Viva SHOULD have been, had they bothered to finish of the spadework. I've avoided Vauxhalls like the plague ever since.

Apparently, it is a very British thing to pigeon hole brands. Across Europe, Skoda now has a very good reputation. Volkswagen are still strugling to find a way to get the UK to change thier perception of the brand.

Transit Connects drive well, however several people I know that bought them are now replacing them with alternatives due to numerous problems...mostly leaks, faulty accessories and engine parts etc..

My personal choice 3 months ago was a VW Transporter T5-28 1.9TDi 105BHP with an optional electric pack (Electric Windows, powered/heated mirrors, CD player, front Fogs). I also had fitted a full height metal bulkhead.
I also had fitted an Alarm/Immobiliser that has a GPS activator/located fitted so it alerts a responce centre when the alarm is activated...

Total Cost £13,200.

I average about 43 mpg.

Not had any agro with it, and if it lasts as long as my older T4-3.0 2.4Di, then it will do at least 200,000 miles with not one breakdown or problem....

I will never buy any other Van....

slogger, you're talking rubbish. I have nothing to back this up with, but i bet most of the cars on Britain's roads are made in other countries. By buying a van at a dealership, you are putting money in the dealership's pockets and therefore contributing to our economy. Doesn't matter where the car is made. Even if it is made in this country, where do the raw materials (steel, fabric, rubber etc) come from? Grow up and see sense. Its called interdependance.

So, you want to buy british-assembled or made?

Try the Leyland Sherpa, sorry, Freight Rover, sorry, LDV Pilot/Convoy. Oops, they have loads of Fords bits in/on them.

And the bits that are BL are out of the ark. But there's always their brand new van (of the year 2005), the Maxus. I'm not sure how much outside help they've had designing and building it, though.
