Baxi solo Pf2 50 - has had recent new PCB and pilot kit to solve non lighting burner.

Has recently developed a noise, that I would guess is fan related, as it is a low whistle tone (although thats not a very good description..)

Its intermittent, if the boiler hasn't been on for a while and has cooled completely then it may happen, but as it gets good and warm, then it will disappear.

For example between 6pm - 8pm when both hot water and heating can be calling on the boiler it doesn't happen, as the boiler is firing up quite often in response to calls. However later in the evening when only heating is required, and the boiler is firing up periodically the noise happens most times. If I turn the heating down a few degrees, so the boiler cools completely, then when it calls for heat, turn it back up, then it may make the noise, but if it does when its been running a while to get the heat up it will fade away.

When working on it previously the engineer took the fan out and looked to check it and lubricate it etc.

Any ideas? Its not unbearable, but in the quiet of an evening its quite noticeable.

If the fan was taken out and lubricated then it sounds as if he had noticed it was in poor condition and was trying to extend its life for you. Did he say anything to you about it?

As a moving part they have a limited life and sometimes fails after 4-5 years onwards.
