Hi Guys, looking for advice on a softwood door, half glazed/half panel, ie. 2XG/2XGG

The personal door in our garage has rotted after 25 years. I need a new one. The size of the door is 798mm x 1975mm. Jewsons were showing one Exterior 2XG Softwood Dowel & Glued Panel Door 807 x 2000, but apparently this is now obsolete and they can no longer supply.

Standard door sizes are 838 x 1981 and 813 x 2032 both of which would need quite a bit cut off. I seem to remember reading somewhere that you shouldn't cut more than 10mm off each side? Is that correct? How much can I safely cut from a door like this without affecting its build/strength? If I went for the 813 width one I would have to cut 57mm off the height.

The other option is a "made to size" order which is going to be a lot more expensive, or does anyone know of anywhere I can get a door 807 x 2000 or there abouts?

Thanks for any help,

It was probably a 813 x 2032 trimmed, perfectly ok if a solid timber door, only the cheaper hollow doors have minimal trim allowance.

Ok foxhole, Thanks for that.

I think I've found an 807 x 2000 now which will be closer, but having examined the bottom of my door more closely, the rail is now only 150mm so I think that you are probably correct.
